For the sake of archiving, I went back and tried to look at our 2014 Spain trip. It was a short work trip to join the board of directors of an organization in Castellon but we did still manage to visit Ana's family and have some fun. I couldn't really remember what we did (I'm writing this in 2021) so I went through some emails and this is my only record:
Ana and I just got back from a week in Spain and I thought of you for several reasons. Of course our days were filled with eating; the day we arrived her father greeted us with a breakfast of jamon at 10am. Homemade paella was for lunch and that was just the first day. I won't go on and on about the usual foods but I did try something that I thought you would love. They are called "Carillada" and are slow cooked braised pig cheeks. Yes, pig cheeks. It certainly required some pantomiming to make sure I fully understood and although I was skeptical, it is probably one of my favorite pork dishes I've had in Spain (and I've had a lot). So add it to your list.
Also, I attached a picture of the contents of Ana's bag on our return trip. Aside from the 5L of olive oil, there are some six packages of jamon, churrizo, salchichas and some other sausages I don't even know. It's like the eskimos having all those words for snow, only Spanish with sausage. This is not a myth
